Sandra Ann Romanov wrote this paper for Professor G. Eggert's History 458 class, Pennsylvania State University, as a brief survey of some facets of the Universal Match Corporation factory plant in Bellefonte, Pa., basing much of her information on interviews with former employees in 1977 and 1978. She recounts a short history of the plant, how matches were made, health and safety hazards, and unionization. Includes photocopies of photographs of the buildings, matchbook covers, and workers.
