Papers, 1859-1887, 1859-1865.

This collection consist of seventy-two letters written among the various members of the Lin family of Atlanta and their extended relatives during the Civil War. Many of the letters are to Charles B. "Bud" Lin from his mother, Amanda M. Lin, and his three sisters, Mary Ann Lin, Susan B. Lin, and Georgia Lin, while he was attending the Georgia Military Institute. Common topics of the letters include the latest news of different relatives serving as soldiers, the hiring of substitutes, conscription of mules, relief work, and deaths of civilans in Atlanta. Decrease in living conditions and the influx of wounded into Atlanta are also discussed. The earlier letters (1859-1860) are to Georgia Lin from her sisters and mother describing dresses, weddings and parties.

The Lin family lived on Decatur Street in Atlanta, Georgia between Bell and Gartrell Streets. Mrs. Amanda M. Lin lived there as the head-of-household with her children: Mary Ann Lin, Susan B.
