Also, includes correspondence, 1862-1903, of Henry Van Leuvenigh Bird (1843-1903) while serving with the 12th Virginia Infantry Regiment of the Confederate States Army, as a prisoner of war, and as an employee of the Norfolk and Western Railway Company; and correspondence, 1864-1933, of his wife, Margaret (Randolph) Bird (1842- 1933) of Petersburg. Also, includes correspondence and miscellaneous papers of Hugh Stockdell Bird (1869-1931) of "Audley," Clarke County, Va., while a student at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va., while employed by the Knitting Mill Company, Williamsburg, Va., and while serving with the American Red Cross in Europe after World War I; correspondence, 1898-1969, and miscellaneous papers of Mary Harrison Bird (1876-1973) of Petersburg, Va., and Southern Pines, N.C.; memoirs of various persons concerning the seige of Petersburg; and scattered papers of and genealogical notes concerning the Bird, Fox, Maghee, Randolph, and related families.
