Papers of Ben Belitt, 1967-1978.

The collection consists chiefly of correspondence with Norman Thomas de Giovanni concerning Belitt's translation of poetry by Jorge Luis Borges for "Selected poems: 1923-1968." With the letters are several revisions of poems translated by Belitt including "Amado Nervo," "Deaths of Buenos Aires, " "Poem of the gifts, " "Rosas, " and "To Francisco Lopez Merino." Also included is a program for a reading by di Giovanni, an introduction for di Giovanni by Belitt, and an article by di Giovanni "On translating with Borges." In addition there is some correspondence, 1978, concerning a grant application to translate Stendahl.
