Papers of Hugh S. Cumming, 1874-1984, bulk (1937-1984).

The collection contains correspondence of Hugh Cumming and his wife, Winifred, while he was away on diplomatic missions including letters from English prisoners of war in Germany; together with correspondence concerning St. Paul's Church, Washington, D.C.; the University of Virginia; and a book by Lucy Booth Cumming, "Recollections of a childhood in Nottoway." Files from his diplomatic career contain papers on Indonesian affairs and his interview with the John Foster Dulles Oral History Project which includes some remarks on Edward R. Stettinius, Jr. There is also genealogical material on the Ballentine, Blandy, Booth, Cryer, Epes, Forman, Canabiss, Gholson, Martiau, and Starke families; photographs of Booth and Cumming family members, of the University of Virginia Medical class of 1891-1892, and of the Metropolitan Club; and articles and clippings pertaining to the Cumming and Booth families.
