Lázaro de la Garza papers, 1905-1939 (bulk 1913-1920).

Letters, telegrams, financial documents, and assorted material pertaining to de la Garza's association with Pancho Villa and to the Mexican Revolution in northern Mexico. Materials relate to financial affairs of the Villa movement and to business affairs of L. de la Garza & Co., Inc. While the documents reflect such financial transactions as transfers of funds, printing of currency, and payments for purchases, they also illustrate the logistics of Villa's campaign through references to orders for and delivery of supplies, munitions, equipment, and by mentions of military operations and plans. Items concerning L. de la Garza & Co. reflect the heavy involvement of the firm in munitions. Primary correspondents are Pancho Villa, Felix A. Sommerfeld, and Raymundo E. Navarro; others include Servando C. de la Garza and José Garza Zertuche. Corporate entities in the papers include the Comisión de la Hacienda, Agencia Comercial y Financiera del Cuerpo de Ejército del Norte, Banco del Estado de Chihuahua, Rio Grande Valley Bank and Trust Co., American Bank Note Company, Western Cartridge Company, J.P. Morgan & Co., and Manoil and Rhein. Also present in the papers is correspondence relating to de la Garza's personal affairs and mining interests, and documents relating to lawsuits involving Hipólito Villa, Alberto Madero, John E. Orfila, A.G. Orfila, and J.E. Garrett.
