Include financial documents, legal papers, wills and correspondence, 1792-1868, of the Twyman family, chiefly of Joseph Twyman, Joseph W. Tyman, and Garrett Watts, pertaining primarily to the contested estate settlements of George Twyman; correspondence also contains family news from Virginia, Kentucky, and Missouri. Also include transcript of will, 1733, of George Twyman; slave bill of sale, 1799, Albemarle County; another slave bill of sale, 1827, Albemarle County, with names of slaves; correspondence and legal papers, 1842-1855, pertaining to settlement of Richard H. Johnson's estate; two letters, 1851, concerning purchase and use of manure; and two account books, 1840-1870, of Joseph W. Twyman, one of which was used for a recipe book, with slave hiring accounts. Also include two letters, 1862, from Walker G. Twyman, with the 19th Virginia Infantry, requesting personal items; and receipts, 1863-1864, of Joseph W. Twyman for taxes paid to Confederate States of America, including some paid in corn.
