Papers of William Daniel Cabell, 1806-1893.

Include correspondence of William D. Cabell while residing in Nelson County, Va., and Washington, D.C., with John W. Daniel, William Daniel, and family members, concerning the Norwood High School in Nelson County, Va., its teachers and students (including John R. Page and Launcelot M. Blackford), and the Nelson County Home Guard in the Civil War; and a memorandum of his debts, 1837. Also included are diaries, 1857-1903, of Mary Virginia Ellet Cabell, with comments on the fugitive slave law and secession; her scrapbooks with drawings, poetry, and genealogical notes about the Cabell family of Nelson County, Va., and the Ellet family of Philadelphia, Pa. Minutes, 1888-1894, of the Norwood Literary Society are also included; and printed material, chiefly pamphlets, 1837-1862, by Charles Ellet, about canals, railroads, tolls and bridges.
