Among the topics discussed in the letters and diaries of these American soldiers are training in U.S. camps; the voyage to England and German submarine attacks; channel crossing to France; general war news; leisure activities including visits on leave to French cities, Christmas and 4th of July celebrations; duties as soldiers; deaths of comrades; marches to the front; life at the front; the drive to Germany; armistice and the wait to come home.
