This collection primarily documents Swenson's career as an administrator at Iowa State University, however, some of her scientific work is included. The Biographical and Personal Documents contain various certificates and letters from important events in Swenson's life as well as a copy of her curriculum vita. The Correspondence series, while only covering 1977-1993, shows the vast number of contacts and friends Swenson has made. The Scientist series contains Swenson's undergraduate thesis, "Disubstituted Quinolines," and Ph. D. dissertation, "Studies on the Nucleoplasm and the Photosynthetic Pigment System of Blue-Green Algae." There are also some publications, data, and slides concerning cell biology in this series. The remainder of the collection documents Swenson's career as an administrator and also provides information concerning her work involving women in science. The final series, Photographs, contains about 60 photographs of Swenson's parents, friends, and favorite travel spots.
