Orderly book : Cambridge, 1775 Aug. 2- Dec. 1.

Born in Sunderland, Mass., Montague was raised by Gen. Washington to the rank of Major soon after the Battle of Bunker Hill. This orderly book was kept in Cambridge and records the orders of the day, including regulations concerning the disbursement of provisions, pay and ammunition, appointments and court-martials. Daily life in camp is described in orders regulating the conduct of the men-at-arms. The daily sign (paroles) and countersigns are recorded and there are some entries in code.
