The collection consists primarily of three diaries, 1857, 1872, and 1875, kept by Matilda Hamilton (1817-1875) of Spotsylvania County, Va. Hamilton notes her daily routines and the visits of family members and friends. Included is a description of President James Buchanan's inauguration.
