Correspondence, financial documents, and assorted documents relating to Manuel I. Madrid and to the businesses with which he was associated. Correspondence (1840-1892) relates chiefly to business transactions except for a group of personal letters (1841-1842) from Madrid's friend, F. Herrera y Samaniego of Querétaro. Among the business correspondents are Ewen C. MacKintosh, Carlos J. Furber, José O. Forns, L.S. Hargous, and Joaquín Madrid. Most of the correspondence dating from 1865 to 1868 relates to the Compañía El Oro, which included the San Rafael Mine and its hacienda de beneficio. Joaquín Madrid's letters report on events and conditions at the mine. Financial documents include ledger sheets of El Oro (1865-1876) and of several other mines, documentation of assays of minerals and their value, and receipts. Assorted documents include two drafts of appeals to legal bodies by José Yves Limantour concerning financial obligations in a case involving Nathaniel Davidson and other financial matters.
