Photocopies of a letter to Lafitte from Lieutenant Colonel Edward Nicholls, commander of the British forces in the Floridas, offering him a captaincy in return for a cessation of hostilities towards Britain and her allies; a response by Lafitte to Captain Nicholas Lockyer saying that he was considering the proposal; and a letter from Andrew Jackson thanking him for his assistance at the battle of New Orleans.

Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States. Born on March 15, 1767 in the Waxhaw Settlement in South Carolina; though just a boy, participated in the battle of Hanging Rock during the Revolution, captured by the British and imprisoned.
