Tuberculosis control project files, 1962-1969.

This series contains the tuberculosis control project files of the State Board of Health from 1962 to 1969. The project was conducted in conjunction with the United States Public Health Service. Initiated in Dade County in 1962, the scope of the research was broadened to include up to 10 Florida population centers by the end of the project in 1969. The series is composed of data sheets, reports by office and field workers, and narrative summaries.

Article XV of the 1885 Constitution provided for the creation of the State Board of Health, but the Board was not created until the 1889 special session of the Legislature (1889, Ch. 3839, Laws). The session was called by Governor Francis Fleming when yellow fever reached epidemic proportions. The Board was given powers to investigate and prevent yellow fever, smallpox, and cholera.
