Daniel Robert (Bob) Graham was born in 1936 in Coral Gables, Florida. He began a long career in politics by serving in the Florida House of Representatives in 1966 and in the Florida Senate from 1970 to 1978. He became the thirty-eighth governor in 1979 and served in that office until 1987. Graham was then elected to the United States Senate and reelected again in 1994.
