Territorial Governors correspondence, 1820-1845.

This series contains the extant incoming correspondence of the governors of Florida during the territorial period. There is no documentation from Andrew Jackson's term of office (1821-1822). The majority of the series is correspondence to Territorial Governor William Pope DuVal. His correspondence concerns such issues as military administration, Indian affairs (including the relocation of a Miccosukee tribe), slaves and free Negroes, elections, appointments and recommendations, and the Legislative Council. The governors following DuVal are represented by single folders of mixed correspondence.
