Typescript copy of letter written by Herbert Beaver in 1842 to a committee of the Aborigines Protection Society in London, England; contains a description of Beaver's experiences with the Indians of the Pacific Northwest, especially the Chinook and Klickitat tribes, while residing at Fort Vancouver (September 1836-October 1838).

The Hudson's Bay Company began in 1670, and by the 1820s it had expanded to the Pacific Northwest. John McLoughlin served as the head of the Hudson's Bay Company's Columbia district. In this position, which McLoughlin held for twenty-one years, he oversaw the company's operations throughout the entire Pacific Northwest.
