Vicente Riva Palacio collection, 1790-1896 (bulk 1814-1896).

The archives subgroup contains correspondence, literary productions, financial documents, official and legal documents, lists, and assorted documents pertaining to Mexican history, politics, and haciendas; to Vicente Riva Palacio's legal, literary, and military activities; and to his private life and that of his family. Correspondence consists mostly of letters and telegrams to Vicente but includes correspondence and assorted papers (1831-1880) of his father, Mariano Riva Palacio, and grandmother, Guadalupe Hernández de Guerrero. At least 180 of the letters to Vicente are from Porfirio Díaz (1877-1896). Literary productions, mostly written by Vicente, include essays, speeches, poems, research notes, and reports on scientific matters. Financial documents include records of Vicente's income and expenses and Mariano Riva Palacio's records concerning the municipality of Mexico, mostly from early 1868. Items in the manuscripts subgroup include examples of Vicente's historical works as well as records and correspondence reflecting his military, political, and legal activities. Their manuscript numbers are: G4, G486.1, G515, G522, G532, G558, G560, G572, G575, G582, G583, G587, G604, and G605.
