Liberty Bowl invitation letters, 1959 November 12-16.

Penn State received an invitation to play football in the first Liberty Bowl game, 19 December 1959. Penn State president Eric A. Walker received a letter from Richardson Dilworth, mayor of Philadelphia, urging him to accept the invitation; a formal invitation from A.F. "Bud" Dudley, president, and George J. Kerrigan, Jr., vice president, Liberty Bowl Association, for Penn State to be the host team; and a letter from Tom S. Gallery, director of sports, NBC, about filming a documentary about Penn State for their pre-game program.
