Anne Simons Deas papers, ca. 1900.

Papers consist primarily of articles by Deas but also include notes, lists, and recipes. Articles (manuscripts for publication) concern topics such as planting and harvesting rice in South Carolina, the distribution of cloth to slaves on antebellum rice plantations, barnyards and threshing mills on rice plantations, and the wedding of a black (slave?) couple. Recipes are for cough drops, laudanum, and other remedies. Notes concern "superstitions and notions," and lists include a list of anecdote titles, a list of the names of slaves, and one of South Carolina plantation names.
