Georgetown County, South Carolina rice plantation owner. Plowden Weston came from Warwickshire, England, to the colony of South Carolina in 1757 and established himself in trade in Charleston (S.C.). He bought Laurel Hill Plantation in 1775 and adjoining lands in 1777. Plowden Weston accumulated a great fortune, the bulk of which he left to two sons, Dr. Paul Weston (1784-1837) and Francis Marion Weston. Francis Marion Weston lived at Laurel Hill Plantation. South Carolina family of English descent. Jonathan Lucas (1754-1821) was a millwright who emigrated from England to Charleston, South Carolina about 1790. He invented new types of rice pounding mills and water mills and installed them throughout the rice regions of South Carolina.
