Family letters (1833-1860) to Edward Logan from Mary Legare Logan, George C. Logan, Jr., and Mary Webb Logan mainly concern family matters but include one from Edward Logan to Rev. George C. Logan, Sr. regarding theological questions. Letters are from Battery Island, Ga., Marysville, Goose Creek, Cainhoy, and Charleston, South Carolina. Editorial, political, and personal correspondence (1876-1906) of Roswell Turner Logan, editor of the Charleston newspaper the News and Courier, mostly regarding politics including one about the presidential election of 1876. Correspondents include William Ashmead Courtenay, Robert Barnwell Rhett (Jr.), and others. Also included are the expense accounts of Roswell Logan's Southeastern Advertising Agency (1906), and a letter concerning the sale of the agency after Logan's death. Correspondence of Wade Hampton Logan concerning the Port Utilities Commission of Charleston (1922) mostly concerning the fertilizer wharf, fund-raising for the Huguenot Church of Charleston, memorials of George Walton Williams and Francis J. Pelzer, chairmen of commissioners of the Charleston Orphan House, and other topics. Also contains a Thalia Club invitation list (1899-1900), a list (1904) of members of Democratic clubs in Beaufort County, and memorabilia (1923) of a Charleston Country Club banquet.

William Ashmead Courtenary was a Charleston and Columbia, S.C. businessman and newspaper editor. He served as mayor of Charleston from 1879 to 1887. Roswell Turner Logan (1836-1906) was born in Charleston, S.C. He graduated from the College of Charleston in 1855. Logan began his long newspaper career in January of 1866, when he returned to Charleston after serving in the Confederate Calvary for four years.
