Letter : Charleston, S.C., to Peter Hagner, 1818 September 30.

Letter from John Horlbeck, a former member of the Board of Commissioners of Fortifications at Charleston, South Carolina, to Peter Hagner, Auditor, U.S. Treasury Department, is in reply to a request by the Treasury Dept. for an additional voucher. Horlbeck informs Hagner that all vouchers for the defense of Charleston were delivered to Maj. Gen. Thomas Pinckney after the dissolution of the Board of Commissioners of Fortifications who in turn sent them to the War Department where they were acknowledged by Tobias Lear. Includes an explanation of the organization of the board and the disposal of supplies after dissolution. Also contains a statement of voluntary contributions of supplies and labor.
