First annual report of the president and directors, 1837.

Handwritten report concerns the establishment of the Louisville, Cincinnati & Charleston Rail-Road Company. Resolutions adopted at the first meeting of stockholders and later carried out concern matters such as the hiring of engineers, the route of the railway, and the election of company officers (Robert Y. Hayne was elected president). A chart on a scrap of paper lists the number of passengers, passage money, amount of freight, total receipts, and bales of cotton for 1834-1837.

In the 1830s, Daniel Drake and others proposed a rail line running from Charleston, South Carolina to Cincinnati, Ohio. A charter was sought from the Kentucky General Assembly to allow the construction of the line through the Commonwealth. The charter was passed in 1836 with provisions for branch lines to Louisville and Maysville. The line changed its name to the Louisville, Cincinnati and Charleston Rail-Road.
