Bound journal kept by Sandford William Barker containing records of South Mulberry Plantation and of agricultural experiments carried out on plantations in Berkeley County. S.C. Volume lists crop acreage or yields for North Mulberry (rice), Bossis (rice, corn, peas), and South Mulberry; "Names &c. of the Subscribers to the Survey of Hell Hole Swamp by Charles Parker, Esq."; land marled at Mulberry, The Bluff, Elwood, Willow Grove, Gippy, Exeter, Manchester, and South Mulberry Plantations; and the results of experiments on wood from various tree species by Dr. Julius Porcher. Notes include "Experiments with Lime and Marl on South Mulberry by S.W. Barker" (1841-1845), "Steeps for Seed Corn," "Statement by F.A. Ford on his marling operations at Manchester during the winter of 1844 & 1845," "John Harleston's Experiments with Marl" (1843-1849), and "Experiments in Rice Culture by S.W. Barker" (1859-1860). A "List of Negroes belonging to South Mulberry 21 Feby 1865" contains names, occupations, and birth dates. Entries (1865-1907) at later dates provide death dates. Also included are "Negroes belonging to Miss S. Jane Broughton."
