Collection consists mainly of letters to Thomas Pinckney but also includes an indenture (1784) between John Rutledge and William Bowman. Letters (1792-1793) to Pinckney at London (England) from Gouverneur Morris (U.S. Minister to France) at Paris (France) primarily concern financial affairs. Letters mention sums of money owed to General Thaddeus Kosciuszko. Letters from J.B. Burges at Whitehall concern audiences with the king and queen of England and other diplomatic matters. Other correspondents include the Marquise de Coigny, the Earl of Buchan, Lord Frederick Campbell, the Bishop of Leon, Count Starhemberg, the Marquis de Spinola, and Count Lavezari. Several letters are annotated (in pencil) by Pinckney.
