Letters written chiefly to Gustavus Brown Wallace Nalle in 1864 together with a 1772 appointment, 1772 and 1864.

The collection includes letters received by Nalle as a cadet at Virginia Military Institute in 1864. The occupation of Culpeper, Va., by Union troops is described and Generals Kilpatrick and Custer mentioned. Two of the envelopes have fragments of Confederate stamps attached, one postmarked Charlottesville, Va. There is also an appointment, 1772 January 17, of James Steptoe as clerk of Bedford County, Virginia.
