Correspondence, 1831, of Charles Landon Carter Minor (1805-186?), while in Jefferson Barracks, Mo., to Lt. G. McRee concerning a legal dispute; from Carter Nelson Berkeley, 1841, concerning, Carter's study of medicine in Philadelphia, Pa.; answer, 1835, of Carter Berkeley, to the Court of Law and Chancery in Botetourt County, Va., pertaining to the estate of William Gordon, the marriage settlement of Nathaniel Burwell and Lucy Carter, a bill of sale for male slaves, and a mortgage. Also includes letter, 1832, of Lucius H. Minor to Catherine Berkeley of Edgewood, Hanover County, Va.; power of attorney, 1852, of Lucy Minor of Fredericksburg, appointing Lucius H. Minor to represent her interests in the Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad; a copy of Bishop William Meade's relinquishment of his deceased wife Thomasia Meade's estate including his statements of her intent to provide for her slaves' welfare. Also includes correspondence, ca. 1863-1884, of Charles Landon Carter Minor (1835-1903) addressing the supply needs of Berkeley Minor, while at the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College (now VPISU) in Blacksburg, Va., and at the Shenandoah Valley Academy in Winchester, Va., comparing race relations in the 1880s with the antebellum period; and his accounts, 1868-1869, for board at the Washington House (Blacksburg, Va.). Also include letters, 1866, from Mary Ann Randolph Custis Lee, concerning life in Lexington and family affairs; certificate, 1867, issued by Hanover County Va., to Berkeley Minor to practice law; correspondence, 1906, of Berkeley Minor, with cousin Julia enclosing genealogical notes about the Carter family. Also include tax returns, 1867 and 1891; miscellaneous papers including an undated sketch of the first floor of a house with a narrative description of the second floor; and a letter, n.d., of Fanny Minor as a child to her uncle concerning Christmas.

Charles Landon Carter Minor was born December 3, 1835 in Hanover, Virginia to Lucius H. Minor and Catherine Frances Berkeley Minor. Charles Minor attended the University of Virginia, graduating with a Mater of the Arts in 1858.
