Two handscript letters: (1) first letter (May 9, 1847) written by Phoebe Stanton to her family informing them of her good health and progress on overland journey to Oregon; mentions threat of Mormons attacking train; (2) second letter (April 13, 1856) written by Alfred and Phoebe Stanton from Oregon to family describing apple prices and Indian troubles; discusses attack on fort at Cascade Falls and other hostile actions by Indians.
