Fenn family papers, 1807-1979.

The collection primarily consists of material related to four members of the Fenn family of Plymouth and Hartford, Connecticut. Horace Fenn, who spent his entire life in Plymouth, is represented by correspondence, diaries, and a Post Office account book and commissions. He also was deacon of the First Congregational Church in Plymouth, so some church records are included in the collection. His son J. Lincoln Fenn was a lawyer and his papers include client files (primarily probate cases), correspondence, business records and household bills and receipts. He also had a business relationship with the Cooper Oven Thermometer Company of Litchfield that is documented in the collection. J. Lincoln's wife Emily Hillard Fenn is represented by family correspondence. The largest part of the collection reflects the activities of J. Lincoln and Emily's daughter Phyllis Fenn who married John Sumter Cunningham. She was an author, puppeteer, and composer of music and examples of her work are included in the collection, along with an extensive correspondence and an even more extensive series of diaries. Of particular note are sets of postcards from travels to Europe and Canada that contain a written narrative of the journey, not just notes written on each card, and which were never mailed, and Phyllis' minute book for the Y.W.C.A. Industrial Department, 1926.

23 linear feet (32 boxes, 5 cartons, 1 oversize folder).
