Charles R. Bacon papers, 1864-1962.

Papers gathered by the family of Capt. Charles R. Bacon of Middletown, Connecticut. Contains pieces from his father, Capt. Charles H. Bacon, and mentions of his wife, Luella, three daughters, and granddaughter. There are laminated copies of Luella (Hilliar) Bacon's obituary and Susan Bacon (Wilson) King's wedding announcement. Capt. Charles R. Bacon commanded the steamer "Hartford" for many years. Records of the "Hartford" within the collection date from 1908 to 1932. There is an account book from his time on the tug "Mabel", 1900-1907. Correspondence in the collection is predominately between Mrs. Luella Bacon and the Wadsworth Atheneum following the death of her husband. The Wadsworth put up an exhibit in his honor. There is also correspondence concerning Capt. Bacon's pension upon his retirement from the Hartford & New York Steamboat company.
