Summary of expenses paid to local assessors temporarily employed by the United States Commission for the Valuation of Lands and Dwelling Houses in Connecticut, for which Porter was the clerk. The assessors were paid by the United States Treasury for making valuations on property for the 1798 Direct Tax called for by Congress. The journal occupies the first five pages only. The bulk of the volume consists of records of pew sales and rentals made by the First Society of Hartford, 1824-1837. Includes a diagram of the pew arrangements.
