Destroyed by an earthquake in the mid-7th century, the site of Sagalassos, Turkey is incredibly well-preserved. Lecturer Marc Waelkens, professor of archaeology at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and director of the excavation, discusses the many monuments and colossal statues unearthed at this ancient mountaintop site and how his interdisciplinary approach to this massive project has revealed a rich history of politics, social mobility, and daily life in antiquity.
