Race Relations and Southern Baptists Collection, 1849-1994.

Collection includes articles, clippings, correspondence, notes, pamphlets, posters, and press releases related to Southern Baptists and race relations. In addition, the files contain excerpts from the published annual proceedings of the Southern Baptist Convention. The majority of the collection covers the time period of the 1950's and 1960's. The material in the collection reflects the turmoil faced by Baptists and others in the south related to segregationists policies and the Civil Rights movement.

The Christian Life Commission is a Southern Baptist Convention agency that provides scriptural analysis on current social issues and moral responsibilities of the Christian life. Housed in the Southern Baptist Convention Building in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1947 the Commission succeeded the Social Services Commision that started in 1913.
