Albert Johnson's scrapbooks, 1913-1915.

This collection consists of two scrapbooks of clippings relating largely to Albert Johnson's first campaign in 1912 for election to Congress and his first term as U.S. Representative from Washington State, 1913-1915. The newspaper clippings in the scrapbooks are originals. There are photocopies of articles written by Albert Johnson titled, "Some Reminiscences" for the Grays Harbor Washingtonian in 1934. The collection also contains 5 black & white negatives of portraits of Albert Johnson and one of his wife, Jenny Smith Johnson.

Born in Vasa, Minn. on August 9, 1865. Taught school in Dakota Territory, worked railroad construction for the Great Northern Railway, and bonanza farming. Moved to Portland, Or. (1887); attended Univ. of Oregon Law School; admitted to bar (1891); returned to Minn. (1901). In his spare time, conducted historical research on pioneer life, western trails, and Indian wars; collector of Indian photographs; resided in Marine-On-St. Croix, Minn.
