Autograph letter signed from Charles Knight, St. John's Wood, to several recipients [manuscript], 1863 August 13.

Correspondents include William Drogo Montagu, Duke of Manchester, William Hepworth Dixon and J. O. Halliwell-Phillipps. Responds to the National Shakespeare Committee's Proposal to erect a monument in a conspicuous part of London to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth. He does not feel quite sure that this is the best way to do so, but is unwilling to set up (his) opinion against that of the many eminent persons whose names are affixed to the resolution.
