Joe David Brown, novelist and journalist, was born on May 12, 1915 in Birmingham, Alabama. From 1939 to 1946, Brown was a feature writer at the New York Daily News, and from 1949-1957 he was a foreign correspondent in India for TIME and LIFE magazines.
