This collection includes the personal and business correspondence, 1839-1859, of Thomas Lanier Spragins (1789?-1863), lawyer and planter of "Cherry Hill," Halifax County, Va., along with his accounts and other financial records, and legal records as a Halifax County justice of the peace. Also, includes correspondence, 1840-1848, and personal miscellany of Fayette Baker Spragins (1817-1852), physician of Halifax County, Va.; and correspondence, 1840-1848, of Thomas Melchizedek Spragins (b. 1819), primarily as a student at Harvard and Princeton universities and while reading law in Staunton, Va. Also, includes personal and family correspondence, 1842-1881, and accounts of Eliza Ann (Spragins) Clark (1821-1897) of "Cherry Hill" and "Clarkton," Halifax County, Va., and as a student in Philadelphia, Pa.
