The papers document the career of Richard Schweiker as Senator from Pennsylvania (1962-1981) and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services during the Reagan administration (1981-1983). The bulk of the papers concern legislation, but there are also newsletters, newspaper clippings, press releases, transcripts of testimony, speeches, correspondence, and campaign materials. Audio and video recordings preserve his work at news conferences and in campaign debates. Photographs capture his appearances both in an official capacity at press conferences, international meetings, tours, Republican conventions, award presentations, inaugurations, and foundation and association functions, and with his family and friends.
