RG 82-108 contains the director's subject files from the Michigan Department of State Highways, Michigan Department of State Highways and Transportation and the Michigan Department of Transportation for the years 1968-1981. Contains correspondence, committee and cabinet reports, commission meetings, and resolutions. Individual commissioner's correspondence is also included. The subjects discussed embrace funding for projects such as marketing, a public transportation system evaluation, the SEMTA contract, airport services, the subsidization of rail lines, and gasoline taxes. The "cabinets" are appointed by the governor. They make recommendations to the governor on the positions which he should on various issues. For example, the Community Development Cabinet recommends positions on matters which impact a local area (such as a unit of government) or where a community's problem requires inter-agency response.
