Bound volume of correspondence, executive memoranda, and typescripts of speeches documenting the participation of South Caroina and various other states in a national program to ensure preservation of records and artifacts. Correspondence discusses general guidelines for documenting, microfilming or evacuating valuable cultural properties, as well as directives promoting the collection of material re the impact of World War II on South Carolina. Collection includes typescripts of speeches presented around the U.S. by Collas G. Harris, Chairman, Executive Committee of CCCR, Washington, D.C.; also includes other mailings from national headquarters, including copy of memorandum, 12 Feb. 1942, re storage space available for paintings, books, and manuscripts at various educational institutions in Colorado; bulletin re air raid procedures, types of incendiary bombs and methods of extinguishing them; and provisional plans, 17 Feb. 1942, for protection of the South Caroliniana Library by R.L. Lester Jesse Cappon (1900-1981) was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Jesse Cappon and Mary E. Geisinger Cappon. J. Isaac Copeland (1910-1995), a native of Clinton, S.C., was graduated from Presbyterian College in 1931. Copeland then entered George Peabody College for Teachers in 1932, where he earned a B.S. in Library Science and an M.A. in history.
