Charles Edward Eaton, poet and professor, was born in Winston- Salem, N.C., received his B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina in 1936, studied at Princeton, and received his M.A. degree from Harvard, where he worked with Robert Frost who later recommended him to the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. Charles Madge (1912-1996) was the son of Lieut Col. C. A. Madge and Barbara, ne Hylton Foster, and was educated at Winchester College and Magdalene College, Cambridge, though he left without graduating.
