1891 Nov 24. Letter: A "cover letter" mentions the accompanying 4 page letter and proposes departure times. The accompanying letter, requesting Mr. McClure's support, describes in detail the finances and plans for Professor Garner's proposed trip to Africa to record the vocal sounds of the gorilla or the chimpanzee and to gather what information he can about these primates. Includes a copy of a drawing of R. L. Garner. 1892 Sep 8. Printed article from "Pall Mall Budget." Titled "The Speech of Monkeys," the article is a review of a lecture given by R. L. Garner to the Balloon Society.
