Lyric sheets for Iowa songs, 1945-1946?.

A collection of typescript lyric sheets for Iowa songs. The collections includes submissions of poems which could be easily set to familiar music which were solicited by the Iowa Dept. of History and Archives to commemorate the centennial of Iowa's statehood as well as correspondence to and from Ora Williams, department curator, regarding some of the submissions.

William Lytle Carpenter served one term as mayor of Des Moines beginning in 1888. He also served as secretary of the Farmers' Protective Association which was formed in 1881 chiefly for the purpose of fighting a barbed wire monopoly by Washburn & Moen Company.
