Abstract

Papers of the Darden family, including genealogical data, correspondence, deeds, diaries, wills, and scrapbooks. The papers include ten Civil War letters written by Andrew Jackson Allensworth, William R. Oursler, R.A. Oursler, E. Hewitt, and W.O. Judkin. Twelve volumes of diaries of Ellen Hughes Allensworth cover the years 1879-1910. Mrs. Allensworth lived in San Antonio, Texas during this period. There are scrapbooks dealing with music, the writings of humorist Bill Nye, Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee, the Cumberland Chapter of the DAR, 1932, and photographs of trips across the southeastern United States, the Bahamas, Canada, Cuba, and Mexico. Family names covered in the genealogical material include Allensworth, Carter, Darden, Hughes, Liveley, Lockert, Mansfield, Oursler, Peter, Skelton, Stansbury, and Whitehead.
