Consisting of volume, 1796-1804, medical account book re house calls made to treat illnesses at the households of "Planter Pawley," "Planter Weston," and various others; most entries identify slaves by name and describe treatments prescribed by Nesbitt; and published volume, The Medical Companion: Treating, According to the Most Successful Practice ..., by James Ewell, physician of Washington, D.C., and formerly of Savannah, Ga., and Lancaster County, Va., re recommendations for health among slaves; personal hygiene, medicinal plants and recipes, and other essays, including his account of the capture of Washington, D.C., by the British, August 1814; inscribed with Robert Nesbitt's signature.
