Receipt book recording various finanical transactions; loans, notes, annual payments to Nixons' overseer and others, hiring out of African American slaves, and entries re payments for bales of cotten sent to Charleston, S.C., in Nixon's boat. Includes payment records, 28 Jan. 1811, to W[illia]m Cook for building three-story brick house at Broad and King Streets in Camden; 24 Jan. 1818, fifty dollars to James Cook "In full for Negro hier [i.e. hire] up to the first day January 1818"; 13 Apr. 1819, to Rebecca Ballard, "one hundred dollars for bo[a]rding his daughter" during previous year. Other entries note Nixon's delivery of a standard work written by Epaphras Hoyt consulted for the training of mounted militia, including 23 Nov. 1818, Camden [S.C.], "received of Wm Nixon four volumes of Hoyt's Cavalry discipline for my Self and Subalterns for the use of the bever creek Troop of hors[e]," signed by David Archer, Captain of the Sixth Regiment of Cavalry, and 8 May 1819, to Capt. John Stewart, "Rec[eive]d of the State of South Carolina by the Hand of Lieut. Col. W[illia]m Nixon four volumes of Hoyt's Cavalry Disciplin[e] for The Lancaster troop of Dragoons."
