Letter, 17 Mar. [18]61, Albuquerque, N.M., to JL's uncle, A[ugustus] B[aldwin] Longstreet, Columbia, S.C., re his plans to return with his family to South Carolina to support Confederate war effort, noting that the route through Texas had been closed, but the Northern route remained too cold for family travel, ""Louise is quite distressed about being left here, without me," with postscript, 19 Mar. 1861, relating a change in his departure plans on account of a report of "an extensive preparation for robbing, plundering and destroying." Deed, 10 Oct. 1889, transferring certain land in Hall County, Ga., to Robert Lee Longstreet. Letter, 24 June 1901, to Randolph [Longstreet], re his travel plans, advising Randolph re securing patents, discussing the sale of land in Georgia and his decision to sell the Texas land near San Antonio, and working to prevent lands in Dahlonega, [Ga.], from being lost to the heirs, and discussion of residents, property, and the quality of life in Gainesville [Georgia], "I thought that when I located in Gainsville... [within] ten years the people would give up their sectional ideas... but they are just now beginning," and the need for capital.

Augustus Baldwin Longstreet, lawyer, author, and college president, was born 22 September 1790, in Augusta, Georgia, and died 9 July 1870, in Oxford, Mississippi.
