Lydia Vinton and family diaries, 1856-1915 (bulk 1879-1899).

Diaries (1879-1899) kept by Lydia Vinton describing her life on a farm she and her husband Austin Vinton owned in Waseca County, Minnesota. There are also two diaries (1858 and 1867-1870) of Lydia's son Wilfred Vinton; a diary (1888-1889) of Wilfred's young son Herbert Vinton; and a folder of miscellaneous biographical and other material. The diaries give a detailed look at life on a southern Minnesota farm in the second half of the nineteenth century.

Lydia Henshaw was born November 27, 1822 in Ellicottville, New York. She married Austin Vinton on December 30, 1844. Austin was born June 19, 1817 in Chesterfield, Massachusetts. The Vintons had two sons: Wilfred (1843-1915) and W. H. (William H., b.1847), both born in the state of New York. The Vintons farmed in Cattaraugus County, New York until moving to Minnesota in 1856 and settling in September of that year on a farm located east of Waseca in Section 36, Woodville Township. Au...
